Carpe Carp (Seize the Carp)

We are upping our game of carp abatement this year. As we announced at our Annual Meeting in June, FoSL is partnering with the Silver Lake Improvement Board on a pilot program to bait, trap and harvest carp in numbers from Silver Lake. 3rd Annual Kids Carp Cull Results

Friends of Silver Lake once again sponsored the Kids Carp Cull where we pay kids to remove nuisance carp from Silver Lake with collection events every Sunday between Memorial Day. We were down a bit from our previous year’s take with 46 carp removed by 8 kids in 2026. Thanks to all the kids (and the parents/grandparents) who helped to clean up Silver Lake during the 3rd Annual Kids Carp Cull! (Here’s the details on this year’s flyer.)

2026 Friends of Silver Lake Annual Meeting

We had a great discussion at the FoSL Annual Meeting that took place June 27th at the Golden Township Park at Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Our agenda included updates from the Silver Lake Improvement Board, Golden Township, SL State Park and the Oceana County Sherriff as well as the FoSL year in review and our Board election. Friends of Silver Lake is a non-profit association of property owners and other parties interested in the betterment of the Silver Lake community (Golden Township, Oceana County, Michigan). Our purpose is to discuss, promote and act upon ideas that contribute to keeping the greater Silver Lake community more beautiful, enjoyable, secure, and valuable. We promote the improvement of waters, roads, walks, beaches, and other area environments, advocate for various improvements, and assist in raising funds for such purposes.
