Golden Township Park at Silver Lake Sand Dunes
This six acre park was acquired by Golden Township on May 31, 2012 through a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund and a generous donation by the owners, Harvey & Harriet Berens along with other personal donations by the local community and support from the Township Board. It was the only commercially zoned parcel of its size in the business district that is now preserved and protected for the enjoyment of Golden Township residents and the public’s use indefinitely.
Neither Silver Lake nor the Township has had a free public park suitable for community events and festivals in conjunction with “neighborhood” play and socialization. Park improvements include park entrance exit loop off Silver Lake Road, Park signage, electrical service, covered picnic pavilion, play apparatus, park stage for performances and new equipment storage building. Providing for community recreation and public open space on the heels of reconstructing the roads leading into Silver Lake, with the traffic circle and bike/walking pathways, has further moved the Silver Lake Sand Dunes area towards a walkable, activity-rich community for residents of all types, ages and abilities.
